Since September we have been learning the basics of DJ-ing and various mixing techniques including ‘beat matching’ and ‘looping’. The pupils know how to set up a DJ station and how the various components interact with each other. We have three DJ stations currently set up in the music room, all with different functions that offer a variety of different effects and methods in which songs can be mixed and DJ sets can be built. The pupils have been building their record libraries from songs within their own collections and others they have sourced from the internet. Each pupil is currently working on a 6 song DJ set which is ultimately going to be performed in school when they are ready. Moving forward we’re working towards a Level 1 Qualification in Music Technology, looking to set up DJ workshops with local tutors and inviting professional DJs to come in and perform for the pupils.
