Functional Skills

To enable all our students to access key skills needed to progress, we follow functional skills in English, Maths and ICT using the NCFE awarding body.

English: Due to the nature of our students, the amount of education and gaps in learning missed, some may struggle to access the GCSE curriculum award in English. The NCFE Functional Skills course in English at Entry Level 1-3/ Level 1-2 is an ideal course for those students.

Maths: Due to the nature of our students, those who demonstrate large knowledge gaps and who struggle to access the GCSE curriculum. The NCFE Functional Skills course in Mathematics at Entry Level 1-3/Level 1-2 is an ideal course for candidates wishing to develop practical, transferable skills in Mathematics in order to work confidently, effectively and independently in life. It is suitable for a wide range of individuals and is fundamental to the successful completion of various wider qualifications and frameworks, such as Foundation Learning.

ICT: Due to the nature of our students, those who demonstrate large knowledge gaps and who struggle to access the GCSE curriculum, the NCFE Functional Skills course in ICT at Entry Level 3/Level 1-2 is an ideal course for candidates wishing to develop transferable skills in using desktop applications such as, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. This enables them to work confidently and effectively in the technological world we live in.
