GCSE English Language and Literature
“The English language is a work in progress. Have fun with it.” Jonathan Culver
The aim of the English department is to identify topics that engage and enthuse students.
All students at KS4 follow detailed, differentiated schemes of work which are continually reviewed by the department. Throughout KS4, students will develop the ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively when speaking and writing. They learn how to use a wide range of vocabulary, and the correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Formative and summative assessments form the assessment focuses which are used to map individual progress.
Our creative approach to lessons allows students to develop a personal style and a confidence in their own ideas and responses.
The English department delivers the WJEC Edquas 9-1 GCSE in English Language (Year 11) and Edquas 9-1 English Literature (Year 10).
All Year 9/10 students follow a one-year plan. This plan incorporates the assessment objectives clearly outlined in the specification and in preparation for the Year 11 GCSE one year. KS3/4 students are presented with clearly defined differentiated tasks to suit their ability.
We hope that you will enjoy the poems on this page which clearly demonstrate the response of students to the theme introduced by the teacher and highlight their creativity.
